Yes another Linux distribution is born. From the ashes of EeePCLinuxOS rises a bigger purpose, a stronger base and a bright future. Things are going to be rough for a few months, it's just me a little Toshiba Protege 200 and my EeePC 4G with a crippling slow internet connection. I don't even have blank CDs to test with yet, but those are coming. So until I get home development is going to be slow, but development will be happening. I've already got a base to the magic. SO at that I switch my attention to bringing back up the site and the forums. So I can take some pressure off of Richard and Wingers and maybe get something for them to work on in a few weeks. Also I can get some ideas flowing about using Unity as a base and some areas of focus I think Synergy Linux needs to emphasize. I didn't pick the name just because it sounded good. I would like to put the net back in Netbook. Making it a Network appliance and a network client to any appliances available on the network. This will take focus on UPnP, Pulse Audio, Synergy (the actual application), Including a MythFrontend, KDE 4 and various other opensource linux projects that have taken the view point of a computer strapped to a desk and thrown it out the window. Your suggestions, questions and alterations are welcome. See you on the forums here or at Unity.. JMiahMan |

The site is back up but only for a little while. It's in need of some major security updates, which will be happening here shortly. There's a lot going on, other then the site. EeePCLinuxOS development has came to a screeching halt. We found the current base of PCLinuxOS, it's core packages etc.. where no longer sufficient for the direction that we intend to take EeePCLinuxOS. Some developers from PCLinuxOS have created a alternate distribution called Unity-Linux that's main focus is getting remasters or more appropriatly now what Unity developers call branches. Check out the site and their forums for a greater understanding. EeePCLinuxOS will soon be renamed and this site will be moved other to another domain. Stay tuned for more announcments or watch the Unity Forums. |

I'm taking a little summer break. Development on PCLinuxOS has slowed to a trickle, we rely pretty heavily on a rapid development of PCLinuxOS to continue. There's things like a new draktools that supports enterprise wpa and password user connections that I was relying on for our future releases. There's also new additions to the 2.6.26 kernel that would help dramatically. I have confidence that developement will pick back up and whenever PCLinuxOS decides to release a 2008 version we'll soon have something else out. More and more though our efforts are being taken off the hardware aspect of the EeePC. It won't be long until we'll no longer be needed as most of our changes have been sent up stream. There will still be some cutting edge programs and methods that I hope to continue to develop and keep EeePCLinuxOS alive. Right now though I don't have the time or resources for another release. My primary focus lately has been to get issues fixed upstream (in PCLinuxOS) and help out where I can. There seems to be a shortage of staff and Tex is taking on a pretty heavy work load. Thought I would just give everyone a status. No we're not dead just taking a summer hibernation. |

The latest 2.6.26 kernel now offers EeePC-ACPI support by default. Before the Asus_ACPI module had to be patched and offered through external means if you didn't want to create a kernel that was specific to the EeePC and have ACPI support for the EeePC. This new module cleans up the existing module from ASUS and offers hotkeys, the ablity to disable and enable wireless, webcam and the cardreader, dim the lcd screen and control the fan speed. Look for the 2.6.26 and higher kernels in future release of EeePCLinuxOS. |

This image is brought to you by creator of UnetBootIn. Out of the blue the creator decided to help out out and spruce up my lowly hacked version of UnetBootin-EeePCLOS. Very very nice. If you see him around the community whether it be on an Ubuntu forum or what have you, say thanks. This is one of the many reasons OpenSource is so much more fun then anything else out there. Epspecially when there's great people behind it.
You can get this latest version on the Download page. Thanks again! |
